Last weekend my friends and I were trying to decide what to do on another restless Friday night. We decided to check out a club in Greensboro called Greene Street. Soon after we arrived, a band called "The Movement" took the stage. The band, a rare mix of reggae, rock and hip-hop, consists of Gary Jackson, Josh Swain, Jordan Miller and Jay "Smiles" Schmidt. According to the band's website their musical influences range from "Sublime to Tupac to Pink Floyd."

It didn't take long before my friends and I were lost in The Movement's funky new sound that had us swaying to the beat all night. Between the electric energy of Greene Street and the upbeat sound of The Movement, the mood was perfect for a care-free Friday night with friends.

"It was so great to do something outside of my ordinary routine," said junior Gail Bodner. "I have always been a fan of reggae music and am still so psyched that we discovered such a fantastic band on a whim! I already have recruited my brother as a Movement fan and he's going to their show in Rochester this upcoming week. I am dragging my friends back to their next show whenever they tour back around the Greensboro area."

"As a rock fan, I found The Movement to have a great rock undertone while still maintaining their reggae rhythm," said another fan of the band. "I found myself dreaming of the beach while listening to their smooth melodies."

The Movement has definitely made a name for themselves, with their album "Set Sail" reaching number seven on iTunes top 100 reggae albums. They will be playing in Charlotte's Visulite Theater on March 5, so make sure to check them out! To preview their music, checkout their MySpace page, and for other tour dates and information about the band, become a fan of The Movement on Facebook.
